The American spelling of the word is "disk." "Disc" is the British spelling. The computer industry uses "disc" for optical media and "disk" for magnetic media. Dumb. Kodak used "disc" for their ill-fated film format. Dumb as the format.
technically it derives from the latin 'discus'--spelled with a 'c'. so maybe the 'disk' version should really be the problematic one...
